Our Legacy: Crafting Kashmiri Elegance Since 1951
In 1951, Mohammad Sidiq Punjabi, a visionary with a keen appreciation for Kashmiri handicraft, embarked on a journey to elevate his art to global heights. Opening his first retail outlet at The Bund in the heart of Srinagar, a riverside haven adorned with towering Chinars, he sought to share Kashmir’s craftsmanship with the world.
The Bund, a bustling shopping hub favored by British tourists, witnessed the birth of a legacy. However, adversity struck as the original shop succumbed to fire. Undeterred, the government relocated the business to what is now known as THE POLOVIEW, overlooking Srinagar’s Polo Ground.
In 1954, amidst wooden planks and renewed determination, the business flourished. Stall number 18 became the epicenter, where Mr. Sidiq, alongside his son, laid the foundation for a retail and manufacturing hub of Kashmiri Art. Despite challenges, including a subsequent fire, the government heeded the business owner’s wishes, giving rise to the iconic POLOVIEW MARKET in the heart of Srinagar.
Mr. Sidiq’s legacy continued through his grandsons, who propelled the business to new heights by establishing an export house at number 18. Though Mohammad Sidiq passed away in 1979, his vision lives on through the flourishing endeavors of his grand and great-grandsons.
